About Us: Meet the Team

We're a small family business located in Southern California. My name is Sarah, I'm a Respiratory Therapist, Christian, mom to a beautiful teenager, and fur-mom to the wonderful Layla our bernedoodle. Working with my family has been a blessing, and I'm excited to see this business grow and bringing a fur-ever friend to others. As breeders, it is our mission to promote quality and practice high standards in the taking good care of our dogs. We use EMBARK for genetic testing and to catch any potential genetic issues. We have a passion for animals, and we take our job seriously to ensure their safety. We are grateful for this opportunity to raise happy, healthy puppies that can bring joy to your home.

What is a Bernedoodle?

Bernedoodles are awesome family pets! They came to be in 2003, a mix of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. This amazing combination was then referred to as the Bernedoodle.Bernedoodles are known for being super affectionate and playful. These dogs are like the best of both worlds – they love outdoor adventures but also snuggling indoors. We're diving into all things Bernedoodles here – how they look and their types. Let's get into it!

Bernedoodle Appearance

Bernedoodles have a cool mix of traits from their Bernese and Poodle parents. They usually rock the tricolor look of the Bernese, but some can be all black, black and white, brow/ red, or a mix of colors.Their coat, influenced by the Poodle side, can be either curly or straight. If you're into hypoallergenic qualities, the curlier, the better. This could be a win for folks with allergies!Bernedoodles come in different sizes – toy, miniature, and standard – so there's a size for every kind of home.

Bernedoodle Types

Exploring doodle types can be confusing, especially terms like F1 and F1B. Let's break it down for you:F1 (First Generation): This doodle comes from two different purebred dogs, one of which is always a poodle. In the case of Bernedoodles, it's a mix of a purebred Bernese Mountain Dog and a purebred poodle. F1s can vary in size, and their coats may be wavy or curly. They might shed lightly. At Callalily Doodles, our F1s usually have minimal to no shedding.F1B (Second Generation): An F1B results from breeding an F1 back to one of the original breeds, often a poodle. This enhances the fluffiness and reduces shedding. The mix is 75% poodle and 25% Bernese.F1BB Bernedoodle: It's basically a mix of an F1B Bernedoodle and a Poodle, and the "BB" means it's crossed twice with a Poodle. This generation is super close to Poodle DNA.The F1BB Bernedoodle is made for folks with allergies. Since it's more Poodle than Bernese, it's got a good shot at being hypoallergenic and not shedding much, though no guarantees. If you're worried about allergies, the F1BB is your go-to.Expect less variety in looks and behavior compared to other mixes. It's more likely to take after the Poodle, giving you a hypoallergenic coat, but be ready for curls that need some TLC.No matter the Bernedoodle generation, a good brush is a must. But if you've got an F1BB, invest in a top-notch one for sure!F2 (Second Generation): F2 comes from breeding two F1 dogs. These litters might have puppies with coats resembling Bernese appearances rather than the typical doodle fluff. It's important to note that we don't breed F2s at CallalilyDoodles.Multigen Bernedoodle: It's just a term for any Bernedoodle past F2, like F2B, F2BB, F3, and so on. If you ask a reputable breeder selling Multigen pups, they should be able to tell you the exact generation. At Calla Lily Doodles, we're currently focused on breeding F1Bs. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
